영어회화 day 27 - begin-begins-began + 과잉보호

A: Oh, they're having a summer sale at JP's Hardware.
A: 오 ~ 'JP네 철물'에 여름 할인 행사 한대.

B: Yeah. I think they began like 2 weeks ago.
B: 응. 2주 전쯤에 시작한 것 같은데.

A: Are you sure? According to their website, it doesn't begin until next week.
A: 확실해? 웹사이트에는 다음 주는 돼야 시작한다는데.

B: Oh, maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else. When does it begin?
B: 아.. 내가 다른 데를 생각하고 있는 것일 수도 있겠다.  언제 시작한다고?

A: It says here (that) it begins on the 3rd next month.  We should go and check it out.
A: 여기에 다음 달 3일에 시작한다고 나와 있어. 한번 가보자.

Sometimes, my parents can get overprotective.
가끔 저희 부모님은 너무 과잉 보호를 하실 때가 있어요.

My little brother recently started seeing this girl from his class.
제 남동생이 최근에 같은 반 여자애랑 사귀기 시작했거든요.

My parents are freaking out just because he's spending time with her.
근데 부모님은 동생이 그 여자애랑 시간을 보낸다는 이유만으로 완전 뒤집어지셨어요. 

I mean, I get it. - He’s only 18 and the youngest child.
그니까, 이해는 해요. 아직 18살밖에 안 됐고 막내이기도 하고.

They are just trying to look out for him.
부모님이 그냥 남동생을 잘 보살피려고 하신다는 걸요. 

But I overheard them grilling him with all these questions.
근데 엄청난 질문으로 제 남동생을 들들 볶고 있는 걸 엿들었어요.

Like what her family is like, how she’s doing in class.
집안은 어떤지.. 학교에서는 어떤 아인지.. 이런 질문이요. 

It’s like they don’t trust him or something.
마치 동생을 전혀 믿지 않는 듯 했어요.

I think they need to chill out.
두 분이 좀 흥분을 가라앉힐 필요가 있는 것 같아요.

And they should give him a little space. 
그리고 사생활도 존중해줘야 한다고 생각해요.
